Link Building: What It Is and Why it’s Important

Think of link building as you would word-of-mouth recommendations, but with a digital twist. As Sean Si said on Seo-Hacker:

“Link building is simply the process of getting links to your websites (or what we call inbound links or backlinks) from other websites.”

When other reputable businesses recommend your business via linking to your page, this increases your traffic because of the trust that website has already acquired. It’s a digital shoutout from well-known, well-trusted resources.

Google said link building is still one of its top three ranking factors. Additionally, in an analysis by Matthew Barby, of 1 million URLs ranking on page one of Google, link building (backlinks) are very important:

“On average, the top two results on page one of Google equated to having 38% of all the backlinks from pages on page one; the higher up page one the result is, the greater the number of linking domains that the webpage has; and webpages ranking #1 had an average of 168% more linking domains than those ranking #5.”
